Military Service Bronze Medal (Wehrdienstmedaille), circular bronze medal, the face inscribed STETS BEREIT (Always ready) above crossed swords on oak leaves and the logo of the Austrian Federal Army, with FÜR DIE REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH (For the Austrian Republic), and the reverse with crowned Austrian eagle bearing a shield with the Austrian arms on its chest, with original ribbon. Franco-Prussian War Service Medal. 1870/71, rarer version with edge engraving Aus Erobertem Geschuetz (From Conquered Cannon), struck from the brass of a captured French cannon, on the front is an Iron Cross with dates 1870 and 1871, on the reverse, Gott war mitt uns. Ihm sei Ehre (God was with us. His is the Honour), with the Imperial crown over the royal cipher W (Wilhelm) and Dem Siegrichten Heers (The Victorious Armies), no ribbon, otherwise VGC. $ 65.00

Robert Frederick Douglas attested, at the age of 16 years and 4 months, on 17/4/1940. He served with the 5th Field Brigade of S.A.Artillery until he was medically boarded on 26/2/41. Seven pages of copy docs from his war records file shows this is his full entitlement of medals. $ 50.00

8.      Group, two, War Medal and Africa Service Medal, named to 243530 B.C.B. Du Plessis, loose, never been mounted, mint. Barend Christian Berman Du Plessis attested, at the age of 32 years, on 23/9/1940. He served with the Technical Service Corps and the Kaffrarian Rifles and was discharged on 12/3/43 at own request. Seven pages of copy docs from his war records file shows this is his full entitlement of medals. $ 50.00

(Note, I did a Google search for R.C.H.Hart and came up with a mention of a Lt.Col.R.C.H.Hart and another reference, referring to a book written on the Cambridge Schools - The eminently readable text recalls the fun, the pathos and exuberance associated with young people at Cambridge over the past 125 years. Especially touching is the recollection of the headmaster, Capt R C H Hart (1936-1943), who gave so much of himself to the school and who simply could not continue and retired after the death of his wife. This particular vignette fittingly epitomises the schools motto and the books title, Non Vobis - not for ourselves. $ 20.00
